When Sport Breaks Down Walls

The International Youth Forum “When Sport Breaks Down Walls” was organized on the occasion of the 6th of April 2019, the International Day on Sport for Peace and Development, and in tribute to the 30th Anniversary of the Fall of the Berlin Wall (1989 -2019).

The Forum was an important step in promoting the use of sports as a tool of public diplomacy amongst youth leaders. It gathered youth leaders from all around the world who discussed the ways to support the positive message of unity within society, while focusing on the power of sport to inspire and empower people across nations, regardless faith and socio-economic condition.

The Youth Forum kicked-off by a Peace Walk in Berlin, joining the global campaign of involving Save the Dream partners and Sport Ambassadors to raise awareness on the importance of using all possible peaceful means, including sport, to break down those walls which still exist in spite of the great message sent to the world in 1989 by the demolition of the Berlin Wall.

As a result of two-day discussion, Youth Leaders who participated in the Youth Forum created a Declaration “When Sport Breaks Down Walls”, demonstrating their commitment to continuing the reinforcement of the full use of sports potential in the attainment of the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals, while promoting human rights and fundamental freedoms.

The full Declaration can be found here and the Forum’s program here.

ENGSO Youth was represented by its Young Delegates: Sandra Zwick (Germany), Ivana Pranjic (Croatia / Austria), Aleksandar Dimitrijevic (Serbia) and Filip Filipic (Serbia / Germany).
