ENGSO Youth is partner in the EU-preparatory action in the field of sport: HCSC
A weekly schedule for primary school children with a combination of physical education lessons at schools, co-curricular physical activities and one additional hour of health and nutrition education – this is the main element of the EU-project “Healthy children in sound communities”.
The first project stage January – June 2010 is dedicated to prepare the cooperation with selected communities in the six participating countries: Poland, Czech Republic, Netherland, Great Britain, Italy, Germany. Project partners in these countries are sport federations and scientifical institutes whose representatives. The activities are funded by the European Commissions Sport Unit in the framework of the “preparatory actions in the field of Sport” and co-funded by German Sport Youth, Willibald Gebhardt Institute and ENGSO Youth. The lead partners’ representative Mr Martin Schönwandt, German Sport Youth sees the project as a success for the promotion of childrens’ health and physical activity on a European level. The partner organisations will have to identify now communities and create “Round tables” where public authorities (school boards and health boards) and local sport clubs, other sport organisations, health centres etc will build a multi-actor network to combine their individual efforts and implement more opportunities for all to engage in an active lifestyle as a means to counteract physical inactivity and overweight.
After summer 2010 the second project stage’s aim is to offer a daily time of physical activity for children plus health and nutrition education. The activities will run until March 2011 and have a scientifical monitoring.

International Forum in Velen/Germany, 6th -8th of May 2010:
Healthy Children in Sound Communities (HCSC) meets Dutch-German project GKGK
Develop a health enhancing PE/PA-programme for local children and promote and implement more opportunities for all to engage in an active lifestyle to counteract physicalinactivity and overweight. This is the common aim of both, the Dutch-German project „Gesunde Kinder in gesunden Kommunen“ (gkgk) running since March 2009 and the EU project „Healthy Children in Sound Communities“ (HCSC) that started in January 2010. The forum offered various opportunities to exchange experiences in the project activities, for example the involvement of parents interests when implementing a new PE/PA-programme
or the design of a questionnaire on nutrition habits. The structure of the project, the strategy and good experiences shall be transferred from bi-national level to the European project setting. Beside numerous German and Dutch delegates, the University of Poznan, the University of Prague, the Czech Sport Association CSTV, the Italian Aerobic and Fitness Federation FIAF, the Netherlands Institute for Sport and Physical Activity NISB were represented during the two days Forum from 6th to 8th of May 2010. “The Forum in Velen was an important step for a successful implementation of the European HCSC-project” agreed the steering group members Willibald-Gebhardt-Institut Essen (WGI), ENGSO Youth and German Sport Youth
(dsj).
„Healthy Children in Sound Communities“ is funded by EU-Commission, DG Education and Culture, the project „Gesunde Kinder in gesunden Kommunen“ is funded by INTERREG IV A.
